IS MY HORSE FUTURITY OR DERBY ELIGIBLE?
The Futurity is open to horses 5 years of age or younger of the competing year. The horse must never have competed prior to November 15 of last year in any barrel race, including play days, horse shows, rodeos or novice horse events. The Derby is open to horses 7 years of age and younger. Please see rules for more info.
HOW DO I JOIN?
It is your horse that joins or is nominated.
The nomination is per nomination year (Nov 15, 2022 - Sept 9, 2023)
a. Complete the Nomination Form that is available on this website under the Forms tab
b. Attach a copy of the horse’s registration papers
c. Send a $50.00 nomination fee via e-transfer to bcfuturityderbyinc@gmail.com
WHAT RACES WILL HOST FUTURITY DERBY SIDE POTS? IS THERE ADDED MONEY, AND WHAT ARE THE ENTRY FEES?
Any producer can host a 2D Futurity and Derby side pot - regardless of the size of the race
The entry fee and any added money is decided by the producer, there is no minimum requirement by the BCBFDI
CAN ANYONE RIDE MY HORSE? WHAT IF IT SELLS?
The nomination stays with the horse for the nomination year - it is eligible to collect points and year-end awards regardless of the rider, and transfers to a new owner - you must let us know of the transfer of ownership
CAN I JUST ENTER THE FUTURITY DERBY SIDE POT?
No, this is a side pot, it is a carryover from the Open or Junior. If a producer would like to host a BCFDI Futurity Derby race on it's own, please email bcfuturityderbyinc@gmail.com directly
DO I HAVE TO PLACE IN THE OPEN FOR MY FUTURITY /DERBY POINTS TO COUNT?
No, payout and points in the Futurity / Derby side-pot are only for Futurity or Derby horses, this is your young horses chance to compete with it’s own age group
WHAT IS THE DIVISION TIME SPLIT AND HOW ARE POINTS ASSIGNED?
The split between the 1D and the 2D is halfway, and points are 10 – 1 and are assigned on placings.
For Example - 10 horses
1D
• 16.54 – 10 points
• 16.72 – 9 points
• 17.45 – 8 points
• 17.84 – 7 points
• 17.96 – 6 points etc
2D
• 18.10 – 10 points
• 18.58 – 9 points
• 19.67 – 8 points
• 20.43 – 7 points
• Knocked barrels or No Times get 1 point for attendance!
